Yang Hyun Suk, the main producer of YG Entertainment (YG), was voted as one of the “Power Brains” of Korea who will receive the “Power Brain Award 2013.”

In celebration of the 7th anniversary of “The Brain,” a technical magazine being published by the Korea Institute of Brain Science (KIBS, Director Lee Seung Heon), the KIBS and the Brain World conducted a joint survey to determine the “2013 Power Brain of Korea.” As a result, Yang Hyun Suk, including chairman Kim Beom Su of Kakaotalk, director Bong Joon Ho, baseball pitcher Ryu Hyun Jin, and writer Jo Jeong Rae, was picked as Korea’s “Power Brain 2013.”

The “Power Brain” refers to a brain leader that represents Korea who well developed his or her brain ability to achieve great success, create changes, and contribute to public value. Nine candidates were selected by the “brain” reporters after they looked into the candidates’ activities for the past year and the awardees were decided by vote on the Brain World website (www.brainworld.com) by visitors.
A total number of 1,108 people participated in the vote which went on for about a month, starting on Nov. 29. Five candidates who earned more than 10% of the vote were chosen as the “2013 Power Brain of Korea.” Kakaotalk’s chairman Kim Beom Su came out at the top in the vote (31%, 347 voters), the movie Snowpiercer’s director Bong Joon Ho came in second (16%, 179 voters), a major leaguer Ryu Hyun Jin took third place (12%, 138 voters), YG’s main producer Yang Hyun Suk sat on fourth place (11%, 124 voters), and writer Jo Jeong Rae finished fifth (10%, 111 voters).
YG’s Yang Hyun Suk was chosen because he displayed strong leadership by making the YG Entertainment as a number one entertainment agency in Korea with talented music artists under his wing, including global singer PSY, BIG BANG, 2NE1, EPIK HIGH, LEE HI, AKDONG MUSICIAN, and WINNER.
YG plans to continue to keep the company busy this year with PSY’s new song release in Jan. 2014, BIG BANG’s additional concerts in Seoul, Korea, and a reality TV program of YG’s new group WINNER called the “WINNER TV.”
